From 6 April 2026, HMRC’s Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD ITSA) becomes the biggest UK tax reform since PAYE. If your combined self-employment and property income is above £50,000, you’ll need to keep digital records, submit quarterly updates, and file a Final Declaration — using HMRC-approved software.

The rollout

  • April 2026 — income over £50,000
  • April 2027 — income over £30,000
  • April 2028 — income over £20,000

How CBM handles it for you

  • Software selection and setup (Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent, or HMRC-listed alternatives)
  • Migration of existing records into digital format
  • Quarterly submissions handled on your behalf
  • Final Declaration (replacing the old Self Assessment)
  • Penalty regime tracking (points expire after 24 months of compliance)
